Renovation
Currently the lock in Alblasserdam is no longer in use. There are, however, plans to renovate the lock and eventually to put it back into service. To avoid failure costs and to generate a highly accurate plan of the as-built situation, both the lock and the environment have been 3D scanned.
De Klinkers
The sculpture “De Klinkers” (1986) by Marcus Ravenswaaij can be seen near the lock. This sculpture showcases several shipbuilding professions. It was not our ultimate goal to scan these sculptures. But because the Leica RTC360 laser scanner is an accurate scanner, high quality scan data of the sculptures was indirectly available. From this scan data we can generate 3D meshes. They can not only be used in animations, but also in virtual reality, clash detection, 3D printing and for many other purposes.
